Reflection

Being a member of Lead Scholars has truly taught me how to prepare for getting a career outside the University of Central Florida. It has taught me skills of professionalism and leadership that I did not know coming into my freshman year. I hope to continue growing and networking and getting work experience related to the legal field. I hope to continue to find environmental advocacy groups to be a part of so I can network and help sustainability actions around my local community.  To understand the characteristics necessary for becoming a successful lawyer and leader, I need to gain experience at the University of Central Florida and beyond. Currently, I work as an intern for an environmental advocacy and education organization called IDEAS, which promotes sustainability through acts of service and education around the Orlando community. As vice president of the American Sign Language Club, I have also held leadership positions on campus. It is my hope that I can gain the necessary qualities for becoming a successful lawyer by becoming more politically involved in the future. A few goals I hope to achieve are becoming a member of the Moot Court Mediation Team that focuses on cooperation and debating constitutional issues and getting an internship with the Conservation Coalition in Washington D.C. and at the Orange County Office in the sustainability division to build my professional expertise. As a result of these opportunities, I will not only improve my oral and written communication skills, but I will also integrate transformational leadership and relational leadership into my future career endeavors.  I plan to use Transformational along with Relational Leadership skills to help me stand out and network amongst my community.
